In thepast century, the steady growth of the human population and the correspondingincreasing in agriculture and pesticide use have caused much harm to wildlifein the United States – birds in particular. Unfortunately for birds, thesetrends are likely to continue, with the result that the number of birds in theUnited Stateswill necessarily decline.
First,as human populations and settlements continue to expand, birds’ naturalhabitats will continue to disappear. Forests, wetlands, and grasslands willgive way to ever more homes, malls, and offices. As the traditional areassuitable for birds keep decreasing, so will the size of the birds’ populationsthat depend on those vanishing habitats.
Second, agricultural activities must increase to keep pace with the growing humanpopulation. The growth of agriculture will also result in the furtherdestruction of bird habitats as more and more wilderness areas are converted toagricultural use. As a result, bird populations in rural areas will continue todecline.
Third,as human settlements expand and agriculture increases, the use of chemicalpesticides will also increase. Pesticides are poisons designed to killagricultural and home garden pests, such as insects, but inevitable, pesticidesget into the water and into the food chain for birds where they can harm birds.Birds that eat the poisoned insects or drink contaminated water can die as aresult, and even if pesticides do not kill birds outright, they can preventthem from reproducing successfully. So, pesticides have significantlycontributed to declines in bird population, and because there will continue tobe a need to control agricultural pests in the future, this decline willcontinue.
 - Mainpoint:
 - Subpoint 1:
 - Subpoint 2:
 - Subpoint 3:

Thepassage claims that there will be fewer and fewer birds, but the arguments usedto support this claim are unconvincing.
First, it’strue that urban growth has been bad for some types of birds, but urbandevelopment actually provides better and larger habitats for other types. Somuch so, that city and suburban dwellers often complain about increased birdpopulations – seagulls at landfills, pigeons on the streets and so on. Evenbirds like hawks and falcons can now be found in cities, where they prey on theincreasing populations of pigeons and rodents. So, it’s not going to be a storyof uniform decline of bird populations in the future. Some populations mayshrink, but others will grow.
As foragriculture, it’s true that it too will increase in the future, but not in theway assumed by the reading passage. The truth is, in theUnited States, less and less land is being used for agriculture every year. Increases inagricultural production have resulted from and will continue to result from theintroduction of new, more productive varieties of crops. These new cropsproduce more food per unit of land, and as a result, there’s no need to destroywilderness areas.
Andthird, while it’s certainly true that traditional pesticides have beendestructive to birds, it’s incorrect to project this history into the future. Now that, people are aware of the possible consequences of traditionalpesticides, two changes have occurred. First, new and much less toxicpesticides have been developed, and that’s important. Second, and perhaps moreimportantly, there is a growing trend to develop more pest resistant crops, crops that are genetically designed to be unattractive to pests. Pest resistantcrops greatly reduce the need for chemical pesticides, and best of all, pestresistant crops don’t harm birds at all.
 - Mainpoint:

The reading states that three reasons causethe quantity of birds decreased, but the lecture expresses that some parts of theviewpoints in the article are not reasonable.
First, the reading passagestates that bird’ natural habitats will continue to disappear since humanpopulations and settlements continue to expand. As the traditional areassuitable for birds keep decreasing, so will the size of the birds’ populationsthat depend on those vanishing habitats. On the contrary, the lecture refutesthat the expansion of human’ residence has been bad for some types of birds, butsome types of birds are developing.
Second, the author states thatthe growth of agriculture will also result in the further destruction of birdhabitats as more and more wilderness areas are converted to agricultural use. Asa result, bird populations in rural areas will continue to decline. Although, thistime, the speaker agrees this statement, the lecture debuts that there’s noneed to destroy wilderness areas.
Third, the professor statesthat as human settlements expand and agriculture increases, the use of chemicalpesticides will also increase. Birds that eat the poisoned insects or drinkcontaminated water can die as a result. The decline will continue. However, the listening disagrees that the newkinds of chemical pesticides’ virulence will reduce as low as possible. Inaddition, the scientists are researching and developing pest resistant crops. Inthe future, pest resistant crops don’t harm birds at all.

In the reading passage, the author raises that reading less literature has caused unfortunate effects on the reading public, the cultural general and literature itself. On the contrary, the professor strongly contradicts with it.
To begin with, according to the reading passage, the author mainly talks about reading less literature cannot provide readers with intellectual stimulation. By contrast, the lecturer disagrees with it and she reasons that a book doesn’t have to be literature to be intellectually stimulating. Science books, history and political analysis aren’t literature but they are often of high quality and some of those books are just as creative and well-written as novels and poems. So don’t assume that someone who isn’t reading literature isn’t reading a good book.
To be followed, the reading passage indicates that the culture is in decline. However, the speaker holds the opposite opinion and she says that people are not just spending less time in literature and they are spending less time with books in general. However, today, there are many culturally valuable material that isn’t written such as a brilliant song and good movie. People are not wasting their time when they listen to good songs and watch good movies. Those non-literal activities will not lower the culture. Even some of those creative forms can speak more directly to contemporary concerns than literature does.
Lastly, the writer in the reading part says that it is the readers’ fault to lead to the less support for literature. By comparison, the listening material presents a totally different opinion that it is the authors’ fault because today’s literature is intended to be difficult to understand. So don’t assume the earlier’s generations of readers would read a lot modern literature today.
